On the south side of the church of Wezemaal, we see some stones with longitudinal, shallow grooves. These are called 'plague grooves.'
It is suspected that these grooves were created by pilgrims scraping the stone dust from the wall. After all, Wezemaal was a well-known pilgrimage site of Saint Job in the Middle Ages. The faithful were convinced that the immediate surroundings of the saint also possessed healing powers and took the stone dust home.
