Nature reserve De Maten, in the province of Limburg is one of the oldest nature reserves in Flanders. The walking routes run between the heath and along ponds with swaying reed collars. Natuurpunt has an offer of different distances and three starting places. We start at Slagmolenweg 76, Genk where there is ample parking and information point of Natuurpunt with outdoor bar. The 'red triangle walk' including dogs allowed is well arrowed. The leaflet says 'no dogs allowed' but is not valid for the Red Walk. Extra info : there is currently a slight change on the route because a dam has broken, for the bird watching hut you have to cross the bridge to the left and not right for the water (about after 5 km). You have to return and cross the bridge to continue the walk. Due to the construction of a new wooden bridge, the walking brochure is not in accordance with the route.
