Petite-Somme (Radhadesh)

We did this walk with many beautiful views on 24-05-2023

It had been a while since we had been to Radhadesh (Chateau de Petite-Somme). We had visited the castle a few times in the past during a guided tour. The castle has been beautifully restored by the members of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON). A visit is definitely worth it.

This time we were not there for a visit but for a walk in the surroundings of the castle. Parking can be done at the chapel of Saint-Etienne. As far as we know, there are no official walks departing from Petite-Somme apart from a short reflection walk. We put together our own route based on bike paths and some local walks further on.

We walked the loop clockwise, which took us through the Domaine de Bellevue via a steep climb on a paved road to the Plaine Sapin monument. Once up, one gets a great view of the surroundings.

Further on, we continued on the paved road to bike junction 52, where we turned right onto a semi-paved road. We followed this until Rue de la Forge, which we walked up briefly before diving into the forest after 300 meters. In the beautiful forest, we descended to the edge of Septon, where we passed a few houses to return to Petite-Somme through the woods.

During this descent, one encounters many signs mainly featuring quotes from and about the Bhagavad Gita. They encourage people to delve deeper into their relationship with God. This is how one can achieve a life of joy and fulfillment.

The nice thing is that one can also meet members of the Hare Krishna movement here. We encountered two of them and had a pleasant conversation with both.

As far as we are concerned, it was definitely a successful day!
