The Greener-than-Green Walk of Brussels — an adventurous loop of 60 km

Welcome to an alternative version of The Green Walk of Brussels, for those who prefer to walk a bit quieter and closer to nature. This nearly 60-kilometer route forms a complete loop around Brussels, but intentionally deviates here and there from the official signposted route to explore less-trodden paths, narrow forest trails, and forgotten shortcuts. The result is a walk that not only shows you the green belt around the city but also the hidden gems within it.

What makes this version different?

More unpaved paths, less asphalt

Narrow forest trails over wide bike paths

Extra loops through unknown natural areas or urban wilderness

Some highlights along the way:

🌳 Sonian Forest, but via the forgotten side roads
Instead of following the wide avenues, we follow a series of narrow paths along small streams, with passages through parts of the forest where you encounter fewer people.

🌾 The Vogelzangbeek Valley – deeper than usual
We descend to the creek valley via small paths alongside old meadows, with a chance of seeing deer and kingfishers.

🌼 The valley of the Molenbeek
A piece of wild nature between Dilbeek and Jette, with old bridges and boggy paths – definitely good footwear needed in wet weather!

🍃 Wilderness of the Woluwe Valley
Among the classic parks, we search for the forgotten paths along the water, under willows, and over old bridges.

Distance: ±60 km (possibility to divide into 3 stages of 20 km)

Start & end: Freely selectable, it is a loop

Signage: Not present — GPS recommended (Fixed route = signposted)

This walk is not a race but a journey of discovery. It invites you to occasionally stop, explore a side path, or simply sit by the edge of a stream. Don't expect comfort everywhere, but rather wonder.
