Ostgroßefehn is the youngest district of the municipality of Großefehn in the district of Aurich in Lower Saxony. The older parts of the municipality are Westgroßefehn and Mittegroßefehn.
Settlement of Ostgroßefehn began around 1790. The municipal boundary to Mittegroßefehn is formed in the west by the current federal highway 72, and in the east, the area borders the city of Wiesmoor.
