The Wedau marshalling yard was a large shunting yard in Duisburg-Wedau. It operated from 1890 to 2000 and was finally closed in 2006.
Various developments led to the construction of the marshalling yard in Wedau. On the one hand, between 1880 and 1886, the Rheinische, Bergisch-Märkische, and Köln-Mindener railway companies were nationalized, eliminating the need for the previous parallel routes. On the other hand, freight traffic along the Rhine corridor and in the Ruhr area steadily increased, and the main stations were to be relieved of this burden. South of Duisburg Central Station, there was still enough large and free land along the Troisdorf–Mülheim-Speldorf railway line.
