Sanssouci is the former summer palace of Frederick the Great, King of Prussia.
Frederick asked great Mathematician Leonhard Euler to get a water jet here in his garden. Euler calculated the force of the wheels necessary to raise the water to a reservoir, but somehow it didn't work. Frederick showed very clearly his disappointment vs Euler. At the end, Euler would have to leave Berlin because of his disputes with Frederick the Great. He would go back to the St. Peterburg Academy.
These disputes were fueled by philospoher Voltaire, who wanted to establish his position at the court of Frederick the Great.
