The church village lies on the eastern slope of the Illertal, about 2 km north of Illertissen. To the east is the old town, while the settlement areas stretch to the west, some of them somewhat separated. The Schwärzlegraben and the Krautgartengraben originate in or near the village and connect to the north to form the Mauchegraben.
Betlinshausen was already a popular pilgrimage site in the late Middle Ages. The Church of St. John the Baptist, with its dome towers, dates back to the Baroque period.
