Faja Racon, Petazals and Canarellos, Ordesa

This day hike is a variation of the Faja de Pelay, but on the northern flank of the Ordesa canyon, where the Faja de Pelay lies on the southern flank. The climb to the Faja Racon is quite steep (700 m elevation gain) but doable for anyone in good shape. If you suffer from vertigo, this route is not recommended, as the path is sometimes narrow and runs alongside a fairly deep abyss.
The Faja Petazals and subsequently the Faja Canarellos are the perfect extension of the Faja Racon; to reach them, you must cross the small bridge over the Barranco de Cotatuero at the end of the Faja Racon. After the bridge, it immediately goes steeply up again, the path is narrow again, and the views are fantastic. At the end of the hike, you descend into the wonderfully beautiful beech forest, Bosque de las Hayas. Don’t underestimate this hike; 1500 meters of elevation is no joke, and it can sometimes be very hot. You walk back to the parking area along the trail next to the Rio Arazas. In several places, you can descend to the river and walk over the rocks to the middle, with guaranteed beautiful views of the many waterfalls. Start and end at the parking lot of the Vale de Ordesa, bring food and enough drinks, as there is absolutely nothing to be found along the way. In the early morning, you will have the sun behind you, making the valley and the opposite rock face beautifully lit. I have categorized this route as a must-do in spring and autumn, but this is only the case if the weather conditions allow for hiking at all; in (heavy) rainfall, frost, and snow, this route is strongly discouraged.
