Pisa is much more than the Leaning Tower: all the highlights of Pisa in one 10 km walk

The city walk starts at the DIU car park where the car can be parked for free. The highlight, the Leaning Tower of Pisa , is less than half a kilometer away.

Those coming by public transport can start from the station and pick up the walk at Piazza Vittorio Emanuelle II, about 250 meters straight across the station.

The walk is quite long and is based on the green Michelin guide but deviates from it. However, the sights that the guide describes are almost all visited.

The walk actually consists of 2 loops that visit the right bank on the one hand and the left bank of the river Arno on the other. For those who find the walk too long to do in 1 go, it is therefore possible to do both loops separately. The Ponte di Mezzo is the common part of the walk.

Those who follow the walk from the start will immediately see the highlight: the Piazza del Duomo with the famous tower. Those who start from the station get this goodies halfway...

The walk first goes along the Piazza dei Miracoli with the cathedral, baptistery and the leaning tower. Then to the Church of Santa Caterina, through the Church of San Michele in Borgo to the right bank of the river Arno.

With a view of the stately buildings , it goes up to the bridge that gives access to the church of Arno and further on the graceful church of Santa Maria della Spina. Via the ostentatious Piazza XX settembre it continues to the old city walls and the special park Giardino Scotto.

Past the stately building of the scientific Lyceum it goes to the lively Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II with its famous mural by Keith Haring 'Tutto Mun do'. Back to Piazza XX settembre along the shopping street and over the Ponte di Mezzo.

We pass the San Frediano church and arrive at the impressive Piazza dei Cavalieri square. We pass the botanical garden (for lovers: definitely enter!) and return to the Piazza dei Miracoli.

PS: Our own photos of the sights date from June 14, 2022. On June 16, the festival Luminara di San Ranieri will be organized along the river Arno and all buildings will be illuminated. The holders for the lighting can also be seen on the photos along the Arno (white).
