The Western Scheldt is an estuary in the Dutch province of Zeeland, located between Walcheren and South Beveland on the northern side and Zeeuws-Vlaanderen on the southern side.
Unlike the Eastern Scheldt, the Grevelingen, and the Haringvliet, it is not closed off as part of the Delta Works.
The reason for this is that it keeps the port of Antwerp accessible.
