Cycle from the fortified town of Valkenburg to the fortified town of Sittard (or vice versa). Along the way, you can admire the city walls, city gates, hilltop castle, and other impressive remnants from the Middle Ages, while also enjoying the beautiful South Limburg landscape between the two fortified towns.

Valkenburg and Sittard both have a turbulent history with various rulers. One of these rulers was Walram de Rosse - in his time one of the most belligerent knights from the noble house of Valkenburg. The Land of Valkenburg included a large part of present-day South Limburg during Walram's time, including the fortified towns of Sittard and Valkenburg. In 2021, Sittard was included by the ANWB in the top 5 of the most beautiful fortified towns in the Netherlands.
