From city to village – Amersfoort - Woudenberg

This route is a series of country estates and estates. But before it gets that far, it first goes from the city center of Amersfoort over the Muurhuizen to the city wall in which the Waterpoort Monnikendam is nestled. Through this gate the Heiligenbergerbeek flows into the city. We follow the banks of the stream upstream through a green ribbon along the country estates Randenbroek and Heiligenberg. We leave Amersfoort in no time and do not get to see the outskirts of the city. After crossing the old Amersfoort – Kesteren railway, it goes to the flanks of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug. Landgoed Den Treek - Henschoten is the largest estate on this route. Via a beautiful wide avenue we also reach Huize Den Treek, which looks beautiful after the restoration in 2001. The terrace on the beautiful pond on the east side was known for that time as the most beautiful terrace in the Netherlands. The last estate is Geerenstein. It has a small-scale landscape with meadows, fields and wet forest plots, which ensure that there is a special flora and fauna here. Just before the end of the route we cross the Grand Canal of the Geerenstein house and see the white façade of the house in the distance.

Once on the outskirts of Woudenberg you are in a jiffy in front of the town hall whose architect also (just like us, hikers) comes from Amersfoort.
