Along and over the water

In 2020 everything is different. Day motor rides are hardly possible. That is why I have created a number of short rides of 2 to 3 hours that can be taken as half-day rides. This is Tour ride 4.

If you like (narrow) winding roads, this is the route to ride.

Let’s warm up the tires and after 3 km when we turn right, the fun begins. A beautiful winding road along the Alblas that transitions into the Graafstroom and takes us to Bleskensgraaf. From here we drive via the N-road along the Slingerlandse lakes towards Noordeloos. Here we wind towards Zederik. We drive through the Lakerveld. Here in the Alblasserwaard there are many windmills to see, each with its own story and history. Just like the water has a story and also serves a purpose. The water channels were dug for drainage. In the sights, you can read information about the various water channels in this area and the formation of peat areas and river clay.

Now we steam through to Vianen to cross via the Lek Bridge, then a short piece of Lekdijk with beautiful floodplains to then wind through the polder by Lopikerkapel, alongside the Enge IJssel and Snelrewaard to Oudewater. We then encounter the Hollandse IJssel. We continue to Nieuwerbrug and turn onto the Hoge Rijndijk. We now go along the Oude Rijn towards Woerden. Via Linschoten and Montfoort, we ride again along the Hollandse IJssel towards IJsselstein and cross the Lek back to Vianen. We ride via Hei- and Boeicop to and along the Merwede Canal to the Giessenlanden. Here we wind back to Giessenburg and Giessen Oudekerk. This is a water-rich peat area. Afterwards, we wind via Wijngaarden to the endpoint. The odometer shows another 149 km and we have enjoyed ourselves again.
