Drielandenroute~Enschede from lonneker

A beautiful cross-border route that takes you through the old border region. The Drielandenroute connects Grafschaft Bentheim, Münsterland and Twente with the Drielandsteen from 1659 as its center!

Three-country stone

In 1659, the striking boundary post number 1, the triangular pole consisting of Bentheimer sandstone, Drielandsteen, was placed. Exactly where North Rhine-Westphalia, Lower Saxony and the state border with the Netherlands meet. The stone, depicting the arms of the County of Bentheim, the Province of Overijssel and Bishop Christoph Bernard von Galen, Bishop of Münster, who had the pole placed in the year in question. The capital H of Hanover was cut in 1824. The stone also symbolizes the fusion of the regions and the people living in this area.

ACCESSIBILITY

This route is easy to cycle with the electric bike. With the regular bike you have to take into account a climb at Gildehaus.
