2. Song Phi Nong - Kanchanaburi Bicycle Track

This bicycle track is a 70 Km bike ride from Thung Khok in Song Phi Nong District of Suphan Buri Province to Kanchanaburi, being the 2nd track from the Ayutthaya - Three Pagoda Pass - Ayutthaya Route.

The track starts at Thung Khok (Song Phi Nong District) and we follow the Malaiman Rd (#321) until the Thung Khok Police Station where we turn into Rd #3356. After the Suphan Buri Provincial Transport office we take a rural road through Bo Suphan Sub-district until its junction with Rd 3387. At Wat Thap Kradan we take Rd 3356 direction west. Reaching the Wang Taku Canal, we take the Rural Rd 2080 and continue over different rural roads until the Don Chedi War Elephant Memorial. We follow from here the Thuen Canal until the junction with Rd #3008. In Ban Nong Khao we take the Rd #324 leading into Kanchanaburi. At the end of the road we turn north on Sangchuto Rd (#323) until reaching the Khwae Yai Rd, leading to the Bridge over the River Khwae. We cross the bridge with our bikes and continue until the junction with Rd #3305. The latter brings us back to the Sangchuto Rd (#323) on which we take west until our arrival point.

Main points of interest on this track are the Don Chedi War Elephant Memorial, Don Rak Allied War Cemetery and the River Khwae Railroad Bridge.

The tour will take about 4 to 5 hours depending on the weather conditions and your physical fitness. The track is fully paved. There are passages involved over main roads with rather heavy traffic. Be careful in these locations. Points of Interest are mainly for reference.

Tips and Warnings

Be cautious as traffic is sometimes chaotic and dangerous. Motor vehicles often fail to see cyclists and pedestrians, so you must closely watch out for them. Motorcycles are a common cause of local accidents. Dogs and potholes can also be dangerous, especially in remote areas.

Be visible and wear yellow or orange colors. Use flashing rear bike lights during your bicycle trip. It is inadvisable to drive at night due to the lack of lighting.

Weather can be very hot, so make sure to drink plenty of fluids and wear sun block. Cover the body parts as much as possible and wear a hat or even better a bike helmet. Stay hydrated!

Be sure to have a tire repair kit with you, as flat tires are common due to the badly maintained roads and the lack of bicycle paths.
