Das Krankenhaus, das im elisabethanischen Stil von William Deane Butler entworfen wurde, eröffnete 1855 als Sligo Asylum. In den 1920er Jahren wurde es zum Sligo Mental Hospital und wurde in den 1950er Jahren zum St. Columba's Hospital. Nach der Einführung der De-Institutionalisierung Ende der 1980er Jahre ging das Krankenhaus in eine Phase des Niedergangs und wurde 1992 geschlossen. Nach der Umwandlung für die Nutzung als Hotel eröffnete es 2005 als Clarion Hotel und wurde anschließend als Clayton Hotel neu gebrandet. Stand 2021 stehen 167 Zimmer zur Verfügung.
