Statue Alonso de Nava y Grimón - La Laguna

The bust was commissioned by the Royal Association of Friends of the Country of Tenerife by sculptor Fernando Garciarramos from La Laguna.

It currently stands on one of the sides of the Plaza de La Junta Suprema in La Laguna.

Alonso de Nava y Grimón y Benítez de Lugo lived from 1759 to 1832.

He is one of the most striking figures in the history of the Canary Islands . Alonso de Nava Grimón, the 8th Marquis of Villanueva del Prado, was a leading nobleman and politician in Tenerife who played an important role in the cultural and economic development of the island. He is best known for his involvement in the founding of the Real Sociedad Económica de Amigos del País de Tenerife , an institution aimed at promoting economic and social progress through education and innovation.

He is also remembered for his work as the founder of the Orotava Valley Botanical Garden.

The legacy of Alonso de Nava Grimón is still visible in Tenerife. His efforts contributed to the cultural and economic development of the island.
