School Heilig Hart Oud-Heverlee

In 1880, in full school struggle, the free Catholic Sint-Jozefsschool was founded on the site where the new school building designed by architect De Ceulaer now stands. Willem Rondou and Willem Van den Abeele were the first teachers. Theresia Rondou became the head of the sewing school. The school survived for several years thanks to the support of the Duke of Arenberg. Then a municipal school was established behind the former town hall and the school building became vacant. In 1902 - 1907 the establishment of a free girls' school took place, now with the support of the municipality. Pastor Van de Poel obtained some sisters of Annuntiates from Heverlee to provide education to girls. The new school was called the Sint-Annaschool. The Duke of Arenberg made the building available free of charge. After World War I, the school committee acquired ownership. In the
Over the next few decades, the school expanded organically with new classrooms. In 1961 the Waversebaan was moved and the playground had to be moved from in front of the school to the back. The garden mountain was excavated for this purpose, the playground was surrounded by a stone fence wall and adorned with a Maria chapel. In 1976 the sister community in Oud
-Heverlee to exist. In 1989, the school was mixed and renamed Sacred Heart Old
- Heverlee. In 1993, after a period of merger with the primary school of the Heilig
- Heart Institute founded the autonomous primary school (defusion). The partner schools continued to align their pedagogical vision and school policy. By the end of the 1990s, the school was bursting at the seams and the buildings were completely worn out. The plans for a new building could finally be completed in 2011.
