Welcome! We start the walk with a view of the former Botanical Garden of Brussels, a park with a classic, geometric structure. The bronze statues that adorn almost every corner bear the signature of the crème de la crème of Belgian sculptors from the 19th century. The former Orangerie, where tropical plants grew under green roofs and a central dome, was inaugurated in 1829 by King William I. Throughout the 20th century, various railway and road works nibble away at large sections of the Herb Garden. For Expo 58, the park was redesigned by the renowned landscape architect René Péchère, and most of the botanical collection moved to the Meise botanical garden. The greenhouses remained abandoned for more than thirty years. Until the French Community set up the cultural center Le Botanique there in 1978. At the end of this walk, we will explore the romantic, lower-lying parts of the Herb Garden.
Walk along Koningsstraat, up to the entrance of the church at no. 165.
