The gravel route starts in Opitter and you follow clockwise and goes over the Kempens Plateau: This plateau is about 30 to 50 meters higher than the surrounding land, and therefore there are mainly some climbs on the eastern edge. On the plateau are extensive heath and forest areas. Make sure you have solid gravel tires, because the gravel roads on this route sometimes consist of coarse gravel, which means that the risk of bumping leaks with road bike-like tires (such as 30 mm wide Continental 4-Seasons tires) is considerable. You gravel here in peace through fields and extensive forest areas and you also cross some stream valleys (hilly terrain). In addition, there are some climbs (on asphalt and on gravel roads) on this route over the edges of the Kempens Plateau. Almost in the extreme western part of the route you cycle past the Oudsberg Nature Reserve, where you catch a glimpse of the high land dunes in this nature reserve. 60% of the route consists of gravel roads, for all gravel strips see the list below.
