WERIS – Grand landscapes

From Wéris, located in the Famenne, the walk heads east to climb the Col du Rideux where you enter the Ardennes. The landscapes are therefore very varied. It’s no surprise that this region received official recognition as the ‘Famenne-Ardenne UNESCO Global Geopark.’
No one is indifferent to the charms of Wéris, for in addition to its megalithic heritage, it is also one of the ‘Most Beautiful Villages of Wallonia.’ Starting at the church, you walk along country roads that lead you to the legendary megalithic stones such as (the devil's bed) Le Lit du Diable or the Pierre Haina. The route then continues to the Col du Rideux: at the top, one of the most beautiful landscapes of the Ardennes unfolds. The descent to the ‘lost’ hamlet of Lignely is steep and only stops at the banks of the Aisne. You cross the river and follow a steep uphill path to Mormont. The return route goes via Fanzel where the last hill begins of the heights of Wéris. Through hairpin bends, you descend to the village that basks in its landscape of hills and forests.
