A visit to the 143-hectare estate of Hobos takes you back centuries in time. The name means 'high-lying forest' and it is located on one of the highest points in Overpelt. This area was once the home of bailiff Clerckx, the famous judge who brought dozens of Bokkenrijders to the scaffold.
Today, it is a beautiful, untouched piece of nature, free from pesticides, with a historic mansion and a rental farm. Here you will find old landscape elements and both wet and dry nature reserves that host rare species such as the nightjar and the smooth snake.
The Grote Hof is another remarkable piece of heritage in Overpelt. This walk offers an idyllic combination of culture and nature. Start your journey at the Grote Hof with its imposing avenue and walk through the vast forests to the mysterious estate of Het Hobos.
