Walking through the Window of Theux is a journey through a landscape where geology, nature, and history meet. From the valley of Theux, we travel along calcareous slopes, hollow roads, and wide views. Along the way, we discover the famous geological window of Theux: a tectonic structure made visible by erosion. In places, rocks and relief forms tell the story of a geological past spanning millions of years.

The walk also takes us to the Hoëgne, the river that flows through Theux and further into the Vesder. Today, it often appears as a calm Ardennes watercourse, but its character can change abruptly. During the rainfall in July 2021, the Hoëgne swelled to a devastating flow in just a few hours. Strengthened by water from the direction of Spa and the Wayai, it overflowed its banks and flooded the center of Theux. Streets, houses, bridges, and public facilities were severely affected; residents had to be evacuated.

Walking along this river therefore means not only enjoying water, forest, and valley views. It also means reflecting on the power of landscape and water: the Hoëgne helps to reveal the window while simultaneously reminding us of the vulnerability of living in a river valley.
