The story of iron sandstone in Rotselaar

This bike tour leads us past interesting places with a story about iron sandstone. For centuries, the local quarries in the Hageland have supplied the rust-ready iron sandstone for special buildings. This route runs for a long time curious buildings and mainly tells about the natural and human phenomena of the iron sandstone. The intention is that you discover these different phenomena yourself on the basis of the photos and the description. But even without looking for these natural phenomena, the route runs through a beautiful landscape and visits some picturesque village centers and sites with more than a decent opportunity for a snack and a drink. That is why the route is not that long: barely 19 km. This gives you the opportunity to reflect on other fun things such as the Visitor Center of the Hageland wine or the picturesque and hospitable Donjon Ter Heyden.

Nodes

The route mainly runs along the junctions: 67 – 71 – 72 – 30 – 41 – 66 – 64 – with a detour to the quarry via a separate loop to later reconnect at point 66 and continue towards 67.
