Description

Brussegem has been a part of Merchtem since the municipal merger of 1977 and extends south of the center of Merchtem. To the east and west, it is bordered by Meise and Asse, respectively, while Hamme, also a part of Merchtem, lies to the south. Brussegem includes the hamlet Ossel and parts of Mollem and Bollebeek.

Brussegem is located in the Brabantse Kouters at more than 65 meters above sea level, and is crossed by the old heirbaan (Roman road). The Mollemstraat in the homonymous hamlet is partially a sunken road and has been marked at its highest point since 1952 by an orientation table. This was placed there in 1952 at the initiative of the Flemish Tourist Association but is said to have been placed on Molenberg in Hekelgem near Affligem since 1925.
