The Kaiser-Augusta Foundation at Potsdam's New Garden is a castle-like complex of the former Kaiser-Augusta Foundation, built between 1900 and 1902 under the direction of architect Lothar Krüger in the neo-Romanesque architectural style as a home for girls orphaned by war.
The foundation, founded in 1872 by Augusta of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach for the education and schooling of orphaned daughters of nobility, officers, pastors, and civil servants, moved in 1902 from Charlottenburg to the newly built foundation building in Potsdam, which featured living and sleeping rooms for the girls, educators, and other staff, as well as a dining hall, gymnasium, hospital, chapel, and the patron room, the most beautiful room in the building. Until 1945, up to 80 girls could live, reside, and grow up there at the same time.
