Kolpin is located north of the community center. To the north is the district of Markgrafpieske of the municipality of Spreenhagen. Following in a clockwise direction are the municipalities of Rauen, Bad Saarow, Reichenwalde, and the district of Lebbin, which also belongs to Spreenhagen. To the northeast of the district lie the Rauenschen Berge. The majority is forested; in the east are the Kleine Kolpiner See and the Große Kolpiner See.
Colpinchen was first documented in 1445. The name may derive from the Slavic word "colpa" for swan. For many centuries, the main source of income was the surrounding forests, managed by a chief forestry office. Frederick II ordered that wood from the Kolpiner forests be made available for the construction of Philadelphia. From 1993 to 2008, the building was the headquarters of the Justice Academy of the State of Brandenburg. On December 31, 2001, Kolpin merged with the municipality of Dahmsdorf to form the municipality of Reichenwalde.
