The Grenzacher Horn, also known as Grenzacher Hornfelsen, is a prominent limestone mountain 352 meters high and a regional viewpoint in Grenzach-Wyhlen in the Lörrach district. At the Hornfelsen is the Wallburg Hornfels, the remains of a former hilltop castle.
The Grenzacher Horn belongs to the Dinkelberg and is an approximately 43-hectare protected area where viticulture is practiced. The rock from the Muschelkalk formation is located around 100 meters higher than the village of Grenzach and allows for a further panoramic view of the flowing Rhine and the Basel agglomeration. Parts of the rock were previously used as a Muschelkalk quarry. To the southeast, one can gaze at the Gempen Plateau. The Grenzacher Horn forms the southwestern end of the Buchswald near Grenzach, which is a nature reserve of almost 93 hectares. At the same time, the Grenzacher Horn itself is a landscape protection area. The area covering 6.4 hectares was placed under this protection status on September 27, 1937. The Hornfelsen of Grenzach is also located at the edge of the Upper Rhine Rift, which extends southward to the lower Birstal.
