Boitzenburg, like many areas of the Uckermark, was shaped by the noble family of the von Arnim. From this family came writers, politicians, diplomats, and scientists. The castle in the village was the ancestral seat of the Boitzenburg line, which included the Carolinenhain, a park laid out by Lenné, and the Tiergarten, where wisents were bred until 1945. The tour leads, among other places, through the former hunting grounds of the von Arnim family, the Tiergarten, with the largest remaining stocks of 300 to 900-year-old beeches and oaks in Central Europe. The hiking trail is impressive not only because of its ancient huge trees, but also because of its partly deep gorges and the continuously beautiful views.Length: 19 km (approx. 5h)Start / Finish: BoitzenburgLogo / Route markers: yellow cross + small plaque with the inscription Großer BoitzenburgerArrival / Departure:Train: From Berlin Hauptbahnhof with the RE3 (Stralsund) to Prenzlau.
