Round tour from the medieval imperial and Hanseatic city of Tangermünde through the Elbe meadows to the Roland Statue in Buch with a visit to the local NABU-Elbezentrum and Elbe-Land-Museum.

Description

From Tangermünde, you drive along the charming Elbe River to the district of Buch. There you can visit the NABU/ZÖNU-Elbezentrum and Elbe-Land-Museum. Eight kilometers south of the stork city Tangermünde, changing exhibitions on the nature of the Elbe await small and large guests here. On the roof, Master Stork and his bride greet you, a video camera shows the live broadcast from the storks nest. Outside the door, children can let off steam on the natural playground. There is also a farm shop, the old Märkisch Bauerngarten, a herb-scented spiral, or a clay oven to explore. There is also a place to stop for refreshments. 

On the way back, you pass the Bucher orchard meadow created in 1997. As part of the Road of Old Fruit Varieties conceived and implemented by ZÖNU in the Altmark, numerous regionally typical apple, pear, and cherry varieties can be seen here.

Directions

You drive from the marketplace onto Lange Straße and find yourself on the Elbe Cycle Path heading south. After passing through the Neustädter Tor, follow the signs for the Elbe Cycle Path to Buch. Past the former Klosterberg, you cross the Tangerwehr and reach the dike, where the path leads you, among other things, past over 100-year-old oak tree stands to a small rest area called Onkel-Toms-Hütte. After another 2 km, you reach the NABU viewpoint tower. The Elbe Cycle Path continues past meadows and fields towards Buch. Here, at Kirchstr. 1 (opposite the church), you reach the Elbezentrum. The Elbe Cycle Path passes the church towards Schelldorf. After passing through the alley of old fruit varieties, turn left and reach the dike defense path on your right. Here, you will reach the viewpoint tower on your left as you head back north. Along the beautiful Tangerniederung to the left and the charming Elbe course to the right, the path leads back to Tangermünde, whose city towers greet you from afar.
