Monument Route Spenge

The Ravensberg Hills with their typical "ups and downs" of stream valleys, Sieke, and high farmland form the backbone of this cycling route. In Spenge, the path leads past the medieval Werburg and the impressive Mühlenburg Castle to Katzenholz. The small, city-close forest is used for many nature experience activities. Past the Fahrenhölzer farms, you reach the highest point of the route (133 m above sea level) after a total of 5.5 km on Düttingdorfer Straße. Continuing towards Baringdorf, you can admire an old drainage system at Hof Heining for the irrigation of the meadows near the stream. Through Wallenbrück and Nordspenge, the path runs just a few meters from Lower Saxony along the Warmenau River - a small river with a long "border history". At Hücker Moor, the only larger lake far and wide, cafes on the lakeshore invite you to take a break. On a walk or from a rowboat, you may be lucky enough to observe some special waterfowl species such as great crested grebes, tufted ducks, greylag geese, or rarer species passing through. In the last 10 km of the route, you can reach the windmill in Hücker-Aschen with a good momentum. From there, you return to the city center of Spenge, where many other monuments can be visited. Once back at the parking lot near Werburger Waldbad, a visit to the outdoor pool is a great way to cool off.
An alternative starting point is the parking lots at Hücker Moor. It is easily possible to start from any other location along the route.
