Harzer Klosterwanderweg - 1st Stage - Goslar to Vienenburg

The varied 14 km long section of the monastery hiking trail starts at the Neuwerkkirche, a former monastery church with purely Romanesque structure from the 12th century and with murals from the 13th century. The path then continues out of the gate to the left initially towards the train station, then behind the Hotel Zum Achtermann over a pedestrian bridge to the other side of the street and past the collegiate ruins of St. George. The former collegiate church dates back to the 10th century, but was burned down during the Goslar riots in 1527, only fragments of the foundations remain. It continues through the extensive districts of Goslar, then through forest and fields with a view of the Brocken. On the hiking trail in Grauhof, a district of Goslar, lies the baroque monastery church of St. George. It dates back to shortly after 1700, its important Treutmann organ was first played in 1737. The last part of this stage runs along an old railway embankment and transforms into an avenue with fruit trees before Wöltingerode. The extensive and former convent of Wöltingerode, founded in the 12th century and rebuilt in the Baroque style, now houses a comfortable monastery hotel and a monastery distillery, which has been producing high-quality liqueurs since 1682 in impressive historical premises. In summer, in good weather, the Klosterkrug beer garden is open.
