Around the open-pit mining - Inde, Ruhr, Jülich, Ruhr, Inde, Blausteinsee

Suitable for trekking bikes with robust tires. The descent and ascent between KM 35 and 37 is based on a map error. The route does not have the difficulty level as indicated in the statistics.

Route description:

The circular route starts and ends at the Eschweiler-Nothberg S-Bahn station. The loop follows the Inde cycle path along the Inde to Lamersdorf, where we turn right to Inden and pass directly by the Indemann and Luchbergersee on field paths to Merken, with the open-pit mining on the left. There, we cross Roermonder Str. and follow Peterstr. until behind the Rur, to follow the Rur cycle path to Jülich. Just before Jülich, we cross the B56 and pass by the research center and technology center along the L253 to the city center. We skirt around the Jülich fortress via Poststraße and enter the pedestrian zone. Through the marketplace and small Rurstr., we reach the Hexenturm again on the Rur cycle path and follow it to the mouth of the Inde into the Rur. There, we follow the Inde upstream, always with the open-pit mining on the left. Just before Fronhofen (or Neu Lohn), we leave the Inde, cross Jülicher Str. and follow the field paths past Blausteinsee near the Dürwiß swimming pool, towards the parking lot of the leisure center. This small detour is to avoid the heavily trafficked Jülicher Str. Just before the parking lot, we follow left and then left again along the field path to Dürwiß and pass under the A4 to reach the endpoint of the route via junction 83.
