Hiking Trail "Wilde 13"

Niederelbe/Nordheide the "Wilde 13" (5 stage tour from Lüneburg via Buchholz to Stade, total distance 126 km)

In addition to the well-known hiking trails in the Niederelbe and Nordheide, this DAV section Hamburg and Niederelbe hiking trail “Wilde13” has been crossing these in an east-west direction in five stages along many forest paths since 2013. These five stages can be hiked in sections of 21-28 km. The infrastructure is almost universally available by bus and train or hotel. For your planning, here is an overview for weekend dates:

1st Stage: Lüneburg to Salzhausen (26 km, approx. 6.0 h walking time) (Bus, Hotel)

3rd Stage: Buchholz to Hollenstedt* (25 km, approx. 6.0 h walking time) (Hotel, Taxi*, Bus)

This “Wilde13” is not signposted or marked, but can only be hiked using this description and the available GPX files.

When the hiking trail from Lüneburg to Buchholz was selected in 2013, it was oriented along the former railway line. This had the original name Schedule Route 13. Since the hiking trail was designed to be wild and further away, it was named “Wilde13”. It was then extended over Hollenstedt and Horneburg to Stade.

The target audience includes day hikers, as well as long-distance hikers with overnight stays from the backpack, mountain bikers, all climbers, and interested guests.

1st Stage - Lüneburg to Salzhausen (26 km)

The starting point of the trail naturally remains in Lüneburg at the train station and continues with the familiar path through the city to the Schnellenberg estate; we head towards Südgellersen, allowing for beautiful landscapes to be crossed. The new path now leads along the Hasenburger Mühlenbach to Heiligenthal, Deppental, over the Gellersen Klosterforst Soltau to the LSG Röndahl. Those who are fond of equestrian sports will particularly enjoy the pastures with elegant sport horses when walking through the horse paddock in Luhmühlen. After the paddock detour, you arrive along the newly designed forest pool to Salzhausen, where you will also be well looked after at the Gasthaus Rüters ("Wilde 13" available), just behind it is the bus station.
