Ruhrhaldenweg, Stage 18: Wanne-Eickel - Hochlarmark

The Ruhrhaldenweg is a 580 km long long-distance hiking trail that connects the slag heaps, garden cities, and former coal mines of the Ruhr metropolis. A chain of footpaths, towpaths, small and large roads, repurposed railway lines, and heaps paths leads you through the entire Ruhr area, from Moers and Duisburg in the west to Dortmund and Bergkamen in the east.
This eighteenth stage leads through the city park of Wanne to the former Pluto-Wilhelm coal mine, after which we ascend the homonymous hill for a magnificent 360° view over the Ruhr area. We cross the Rhine-Herne Canal (you can swim here!) and then climb the Hoppenbruch territory. We pass through the beautifully restored complex of the Ewald mine and then ascend to one of the highest heaps in the region (153 m). The panoramas along the way are unparalleled. Along the former Recklinghausen coal mine, we reach Recklinghausen-South station.
