Cycling: Around Svendborg

The tour begins at Svendborg Harbor, which has one of the largest collections of old wooden sailing ships. After a kilometer, you pass Svendborg Marina, from where the ferry to Tåsinge sailed until 1967. Note the fine beach villas that were built in the early 1900s.

You drive under the Svendborgsund Bridge and arrive at St. Jørgen's Church, which was specially built for lepers who had St. Jørgen as their patron saint. In Strandhuse, there is a view over Svendborgsund, and you can see the island of Iholm, where a treasure of silver from the Viking Age was found in 1853.

On the way to Sørup, you pass Svendborg Water Park and the Vocational School. In Sørup Church, there are two beautiful glass mosaics by Sven Havsteen-Mikkelsen. The route then goes under the motorway north of Svendborg through agricultural land.

On the way back towards Svendborg, you pass several fruit orchards, and on the last stretch, you cycle on the old railway track for the Svendborg - Nyborg line, which was closed in 1964.
