Valloire is a municipality in the French department of Savoie (region Rhône-Alpes) and has a population of 1,243 (1999). The place is part of the arrondissement of Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne.
Valloire is located in a side valley of the Maurienne, but since this side valley opens into a steep gorge, the main road connecting the town with the Maurienne valley is built via the nearby side valley of Valmeinier. This creates the well-known Col du Télégraphe, famous from the Tour de France. This road connects to the busy main road in Saint-Michel-de-Maurienne.
On the other side of the village begins the even more famous Col du Galibier, which also has its place in the Tour.
In addition to this tourist factor, the village has other possibilities:
In winter, it is a well-known ski resort with good après-ski options. For example: L'Iglo and similar establishments.
However, in summer, there is also a lot of buzz in these establishments, and besides the Tour, there is certainly no shortage of activities here.
