The Villa

Family-friendly, this 3.7 km circuit mainly takes place in the coolness of the shaded forest. Halfway through, at the edge of the woods, the ruins of the ancient Gallo-Roman villa reveal themselves, the long-awaited destination of this walk.

The Gallo-Roman villa of Grosswald is a hidden gem among the trees. It is one of many villas or farms representative of northeastern Gaul and the Germanies that populated the territory of the small town of Bliesbruck. It served as the center of an agricultural estate. Discovered in 1966, the villa was excavated until 1982, and then consolidated and restored. The baths have been provided with a protective cover, and the room heated by the floor has been rebuilt.

At a bend in a path, take this opportunity to have a picnic break with this natural setting combining old stones and vegetation as your backdrop.

This circuit partly joins the hiking trail of the Grosswald circuit (follow the red ring). A 6 km loop allows you to walk through the 90 hectares of oak and beech forests of the Grosswald woods. You can thus enjoy the calm and shade provided by the vegetation cover.
