Bonacossa Trail

The Sentiero Bonacossa is regarded by insiders as one of the most beautiful mountain hikes in the world. But nothing comes for free; several passages are very exposed, and there are multiple occasions where you must walk on very narrow paths secured by a steel cable. Occasionally, a vertical wall must be climbed using fixed ladders. If all that doesn’t deter you, a true mountain paradise awaits. The mini mountain range, Cadini di Misurina, represents the Dolomites and, by extension, the entire Alpine region at its very best. The hike starts at the final station of the Col de Varda cable car. The route ends at Refugio Auronzo near Tre Cime di Lavaredo. During the summer season, a bus goes back to the parking lot at Lago di Misurina, near the valley station of the cable car refugio Col de Varda, where you started your hike. Along the way, at about 2/5 of the total distance of the hike, you can eat and drink and, if necessary, spend the night at Refugio Fonda Savio. The Sentiero Bonacossa is cataloged as an easy via ferrata, and experienced hikers can walk it without special equipment; for less experienced hikers, in my opinion, a basic klettersteig set is not a luxury.
