The Coornhert Gymnasium is a category gymnasium in Gouda. It is a public school with about 720 students, from both Gouda and the surrounding area. The school is named after the 16th-century humanist scholar Dirck Volkertsz. Coornhert, who spent his last years in Gouda.
The gymnasium has its origins in the 14th century as a parish school at the St. John's Church. The school changed locations several times and was also converted into a Latin school. This Latin school was transformed into a pro-gymnasium in 1888 and into a real gymnasium in 1890. On January 4, 1890, the gymnasium started festively and the 'new' location on the Haven was put into use. Today, the gymnasium is located outside the historical city center.
