Zuiderheide

Zuiderheide is a heathland area between Laren and Hilversum. The area extends from the Sint Janskerkhof towards the Eem valley. The area is archeologically and geologically significant. It is managed by the Goois Nature Reserve.

The Zeven Bergjes is the name of the burial mounds from about four thousand years ago. The burial mounds extend over the Zuiderheide and the adjacent Westerheide.
In the southern part of the Zuiderheide, there are a number of heathland ponds that were previously used to wash the sheep herds that were present at the time, hence the name Laarder Wasmeer. There, the heathland also borders Anna's Hoeve, a job creation project from the 1930s in the area of the municipality of Hilversum.
