Chapels around Hazeldonk

This 39-kilometer long international cycling route passes many Mary chapels around the Hazeldonk border crossing.

The starting point of this route is in Rijsbergen.

From Rijsbergen, you cycle to Galder and Meerseldreef.

After a visit to the Mariapark in Meerseldreef, you continue through an agricultural area towards Zundert.

From Zundert, you cycle back to Rijsbergen along Hazeldonk.

The Hazeldonk industrial estate derives its name from the hamlet of the same name to the west of it.

Mayor J.W.A. Gommers explains the name Hazeldonk as stemming from 'donk', which is an elevation in or near a swamp, and 'hazel', which is a shortening for hazel tree.

According to him, the hamlet of Hazeldonk borders on the marshes of the Hazeldonk Aard on one side and the valley of the Hazeldonk Stream on the other.

Therefore, it is indeed a donk. It would have been covered with hazel forest.
