Last update: October 26, 2019. The section from Waddenoijen towards Tiel has been removed from the route. The Waaldijk is now followed a bit longer from Herwijnen.

The route starts at the hiking parking lot and the restaurant Het Stroomhuis in Neerijnen and proceeds clockwise through the Tielerwaard and Nederbetuwe along the rivers Waal, Linge, and Lek.

You pass by the castle of Neerijnen and then cross over the Waalbandijk towards Tiel. At Zennewijnen, you leave the dike along the Waal and head towards Wadenoijnen. From Wadenoijen, you follow the Linge River, cross the river, and follow it along the northern bank (but only well past Kapel Avezaath do you actually go directly along the Linge again). After that, you drive into the picturesque town of Buren, which received city rights in 1395. The fortifications of Buren are mostly still intact. At the stream Korne, you then head north towards the Amsterdam-Rijnkanaal.

Then you head west for a long time along the Lek. At Fort Everdingen, you go southwest over the Diefdijk along the Schoonrewoerdse Wiel until near Leerdam. The route then continues eastward following the Linge. At Rhenoy, you switch to the other bank, and after that, you head north of Beesd towards Tricht.

Then you head west again through the estate Mariënwaerdt and along the Linge. At Beesd, you change banks and follow the Linge for a short distance. The route then proceeds southward and over the Waaldijk towards Waardenburg. At Waardenburg, you need to pass under the A2 and then follow the Waal for a short distance, with a view of the mill and the castle of Waardenburg. You leave the Waaldijk at the mill, and it is then still a few kilometers to the starting point. Alternatively, you can continue following the Waaldijk to Opijnen, but that means you will ride over a gravel bike path to Opijnen (which is good for a racing bike).
