There have been quite a few attempts to locate the Earthly Paradise. A famous one is the description by Dante Alighieri. Dante put the Earthly Paradise on top of Mount Purgatory, as he describes in his Devine Comedy. A painting by Agnolo Bronzino dating from 1530 shows Dante gazing at Mount Purgatory.
The place of Mount Purgatory is not that clear. Based on the great book of Toby Lester (The Fourth Part of the World) it is supposed to be on the equator at the beginning of the East, exactly halfway around the globe from Jerusalem.
But Matteo Starri states that Dante indicates that Mount Purgatory is exactly on the other side of the world, opposite to Jerusalem (the antipode of Jerusalem). And that is not on the equator. A great site to figure out the antipode is http://map.talleye.com/bighole.php.
