Ephesus

Here in Ephesus lived Heraclitus. At that time, Ephesus was part of the Persian Empire. He was born around 540 BC into a prominent, aristocratic family. He is famous for his saying, " Panta rei ."

The statement "Panta rhei" (Greek: πάντα ῥεῖ ), translated as " everything flows ," is a key concept in the philosophy of Heraclitus of Ephesus. It expresses his belief that everything in the world is constantly moving and changing; nothing remains the same or permanent. Heraclitus used the image of a river for this: you can never step into the same river twice, because its water is constantly flowing and changing, just like everything around us. In a broader philosophical context, this idea means that reality is based on a continuous process of becoming and changing, in which contradictions and conflicts are inevitable and necessary for change and development. Heraclitus saw in this interplay of opposites a hidden harmony, connected by a universal reason or law (Logos), which orders the world despite its constant change.
