Foggia es capital de la provincia homónima en la región de Apulia. Foggia tiene 153 197 habitantes siendo la tercera aglomeración de Apulia tras Bari y Tarento. Los habitantes reciben el gentilicio de foggiani. Situado en el Tavoliere del Apulia, Foggia mantiene fuerte tradición agrícola que durante siglos se ha convertido en un importante centro comercial. Hasta el siglo XIX fue la sede de la Real Aduana de ovejas, que regulan el pastoreo de los Abruzos y Capitanata. La ciudad de Foggia es Arzobispado metropolitana y universidad desde 1999. A pesar de varios terremotos se alternaron durante los siglos y los bombardeos durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial, que causó cerca de 20 000 víctimas civiles , conserva un importante patrimonio artístico y arquitectónico, centrado principalmente en la antigua ciudad.
