Louisville [ˈluːivɪl] ist die größte Stadt im US-amerikanischen Bundesstaat Kentucky und liegt an der Grenze zu Indiana am Ohio River. Sie wurde 1778 von George Rogers Clark gegründet, der sie zu Ehren von König Louis XVI. von Frankreich benannte, da Frankreich zur Gründungszeit die Vereinigten Staaten im Unabhängigkeitskrieg unterstützte. Louisville ist gleichzeitig Sitz der County-Verwaltung .
Im Jahr 2000 hatte die Stadt 256.231 Einwohner. Im Jahr 2003 wurde sie mit dem Jefferson County zur Louisville Metro mit einer Einwohnerzahl von 741.096 vereinigt. Die US Volkszählungsbehörde stuft die Region dennoch in zwei statistische Einheiten ein, da die Einwohnerzahl der Louisville Metro dem gesamten Jefferson County entspricht.
