The village center of Wespelaar (Haacht) was protected as a village view. Broadly speaking, this village center extends from the intersection of the Grote Baan with the Nieuwstraat, the wall and the gatehouse of the castle domain, the corner house De Wildeman, the girls' school and the church, to the intersection of the Grote Baan with the E. Willemslaan with the old town hall.

The historical value of the village center of Wespelaar is mainly reflected in the buildings of the village bowl that developed around the castle domain De Spoelberch with the associated castle church (now parish church Sint-Hubertus and Sint-Lucia). Some of the buildings of the village bowl have evolved from centuries-old buildings and this always in harmony with the remaining, historic open space. Some of the buildings are striking and iconic. For example, the town hall is a high-quality witness to the work of provincial architect Louis Van Arenbergh.
