The Mariembourg wall is an ancient set of fortifications that protected the city of Mariembourg, in the province of Namur.Donato de Boni was commissioned to design the city wall. Work began at the end of May 1546 and in September Mary of Hungary announced that the city was fit to defend itself and received its garrison. The square enclosure has four bastions: 1. of the Queen; 2. of the Prince; 3. of the Emperor and 4. of Aarschot. Bastions 1 and 2 have broken sides and low places in the flanks with underground access from the city to the lower squares. Bastions 3 and 4 are with orillons also with low squares, each bastion has a postern opening into the reverse of the orillon on its right flank. The enclosure has only one gate, to the southwest on the curtain wall 1-4, called France arranged in a reentrant of the curtain to the right of the bastion of the Queen. This arrangement was later modified, with the door being removed and replaced by another in the centre of the curtain wall.
